To start with, many manufacturers rejected the idea that of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. On the other hand, the R. Griggs Group, situated within the village of Wollaston in England, determined to head in conjunction with the theory by creating the primary work boot with the revolutionary sole. At the first of April 1960, the primary cherry red eight-eyelet work boot used to be produced and named 1460. To sell the emblem name better in England, the name used to be anglicized to Dr. Martens.
